Surfing the internet on an Apple is pretty much the same as surfing on a PC, as some of the same web browsers are available for both systems. Recently (as Microsoft has stopped developing Internet Explorer for Mac), Apple has created their own web browser named Safari that is optimized for the Mac OS. View the current weather forecast from various surf spots around the world in your Mac's menu bar, with this easy-to-use OS X app

If you are an avid surfer, you probably know how difficult it is to find the right weather conditions and be in the right place at the right time. The hobby frequently involves a lot of traveling, and keeping an eye out for the weather forecast in each surfing spot can prove to be challenging.

Surfr can come to your aid, as it provides you with swell, wind and tide forecasts and supports numerous surf spots from around the world.

The application can be used for free indefinitely, but with some restrictions in regards to its functionality: only one location can be monitored at the same time, and you can only view data for the current day.

Up-to-date weather forecasts that provide important information for surfers

Surfr can be accessed from your menu bar whenever you wish to view the forecast for a particular location. Swell, wind and tide are shown separately, using graphs that let you know what the weather conditions are like every three hours.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to have certain readings displayed in the menu bar without having to bring up the main application window, which would have allowed you to keep an eye on the conditions in certain places more easily.

Modern-looking, minimalistic interface that uses a simple color scheme

The app's interface is well-designed, using attractive graphics, a simple ocean-themed background and simple animations that do not become tiring over time. It would be nice, however, if some more visual styles were available, to help the app blend in with diverse backgrounds and interface schemes.

Can help you find the surf spots you are looking for in no time

Surfr comes bundled with an extensive database of surf spots, split into regions and zones, so that you can quickly find the locations you are interested in. If you have opted for the paid subscription, you can monitor a large number of them at the same time.

The data can be displayed in metric or imperial units, depending on the standard you are most accustomed to.

In conclusion, Surfr is a lightweight menu bar app that can help you keep an eye on the weather conditions in various surf spots, specifically swell, wind and tide. It is a very simple tool that offers a fairly limited array of features in its free version, and only becomes truly useful after purchasing a Premium subscription.
